There are some films that just feel like a warm hug movies that, no matter how many times you watch them, always bring a sense of joy, nostalgia, or comfort. Here are six of my absolute favourite comfort films that I never get tired of watching.

1. The Parent Trap (1998)
This gem is one of the most underrated family films ever made. With a brilliant cast featuring Dennis Quaid, Lindsay Lohan (in her iconic dual role), and Natasha Richardson, The Parent Trap delivers heart, humor, and just the right amount of drama.
The line “That girl is without a doubt, the lowest, most awful creature to ever walk the planet” is forever etched in my mind and who didn’t want to try dipping Oreos in peanut butter after watching this?
Directed by the legendary Nancy Meyers, the movie shines with a sharp script, memorable one-liners, and some truly touching moments. Elaine Hendrix, who plays the infamous Meredith Blake, steals every scene she’s in with her flawless portrayal of the ‘villain’ we love to hate.

2. Hitch (2005)
A romantic comedy that actually delivers? Yes, please. Hitch, starring Will Smith and Eva Mendes, is lighthearted, funny, and surprisingly heartfelt. Smith plays Alex “Hitch” Hitchens, a date doctor with his own complicated love life.
The film is effortlessly charming and makes for a feel-good watch—perfect for a night in when you just want to smile.

3. Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Now this one might be a surprising entry, but Jojo Rabbit is both hilarious and profoundly moving. Directed by Taika Waititi (who also stars as a ridiculous version of Hitler), the film walks a fine line between comedy and tragedy—and somehow pulls it off.
I had my doubts when I saw Rebel Wilson was in the cast, but she brought her own quirky energy without taking away from the emotional core of the story. That said, the real standout is Jojo’s adorable best friend, Yorki—his comic timing and innocent charm are unforgettable!

4. Jerry Maguire (1996)
Show me the comfort! Jerry Maguire is one of the few films where I truly enjoyed Tom Cruise’s performance. The story of a sports agent with a moral awakening is surprisingly touching and full of standout moments.
With memorable lines like “Show me the money!” and “You had me at hello,” this film blends romance, sports, and sincerity in a way that just works. The supporting cast including Renée Zellweger and Cuba Gooding Jr. complement Cruise perfectly.

5. Elf (2003)
It’s not Christmas until I’ve watched Elf at least twice. Will Ferrell is absolutely genius in this festive classic. His portrayal of Buddy the Elf is silly, sweet, and impossible not to love.
While some still dismiss it as just another holiday movie, Elf is packed with heart and hilarious lines. Two that always stick out: “You sit on a throne of lies!” and “You’re an angry elf.” It’s one of those rare films that makes both kids and adults laugh every time.

6. Hidden Figures (2016)
This movie is the definition of inspiring. Hidden Figures tells the true story of the brilliant Black women mathematicians at NASA whose contributions were vital during the space race but had gone unrecognized for decades.
With powerhouse performances by Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, and Janelle Monáe, the film is both educational and deeply moving. It’s a comfort film not because it’s light, but because it uplifts and empowers. The story reminds us how far we’ve come and how much further we need to go.
Comfort movies don’t all look the same they can make you laugh, cry, reflect, or just feel safe. Whether it’s the nostalgia of The Parent Trap, the joy of Elf, or the inspiration of Hidden Figures, these six films have a permanent spot on my rewatch list.
