With Volume 2 officially T minus 2 days, I wanted to sit down and write this now before everything changes and give my final predictions on who I think could die in the last three episodes of Stranger Things before the finale on the 31st. This isn’t something I’m doing lightly, because honestly, I’m not emotionally prepared for what the Duffer Brothers are about to put us through.
Some of these choices hurt to even type, and some feel like long shots, but Stranger Things has never played it safe. If anything, Season 4 proved that no one is completely untouchable anymore. So here are my final thoughts written in this moment, before we say goodbye to Hawkins for good.

Lucas Sinclair (Caleb McLaughlin)
Lucas is my favourite character, and I genuinely can’t believe I’m even considering this, but I do think there’s a real chance he might die. It feels cruel to say, but narratively, it makes sense. Episode 5 being titled “Shock Jock” really caught my attention. Lucas was technically part of the jocks in Season 4, on the basketball team, and he’s always been caught between worlds.
I also think Steve is too obvious at this point. When the Duffer Brothers went on Jimmy Fallon and dropped that hint, it almost felt like a misdirect. Everyone expects Steve. No one is really bracing themselves for Lucas. If Lucas is the one who falls in the Upside Down, it would be absolutely devastating and that’s exactly why it feels possible.

Murray (Brett Gelman)
Murray has been a key character since Season 2, starting as a conspiracy journalist and slowly becoming the group’s unlikely backbone. He’s the one with the plans, the supplies, and the survival instincts. But that’s also what worries me I’m not sure how much longer that can last.
He’s definitely loved, but if we’re being honest, his death wouldn’t hit quite as hard as some of the others. And that’s usually a warning sign in this show. His death would be sad, but it would also feel like a sacrifice to protect the kids, which feels very on brand for him.

Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton)
Jonathan feels like someone who could quietly break our hearts. I can completely see a scenario where he risks his life for Nancy. The fact that he’s thinking about proposing just makes it worse because Stranger Things loves emotional irony.
I don’t think the proposal will happen. If anything, I think Nancy might find out after he’s gone, maybe through a letter or something he never got the chance to say. Jonathan has always put everyone else before himself, and that kind of character rarely gets a peaceful ending.

Robin Buckley (Maya Hawke)
Robin is another one of my favourites, and losing her would genuinely destroy me. She’s one of the newer characters, but she became beloved so quickly, which is exactly why her death would be such a shock.
Part of me thinks the Duffers won’t go there but another part of me knows they absolutely could. If Robin dies, it would be unexpected, emotional, and completely heartbreaking. And that’s what scares me the most.

Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher)
Holly is in serious danger. Now that she knows Mr. Whatsit isn’t a good guy, she’s clearly more aware than people give her credit for. She’s intelligent for a 12-year-old, but intelligence doesn’t always mean survival.
She’s been given a bigger role this season, and we’ve seen before what happens when side characters suddenly get more focus just look at Eddie and Billy. As much as I hate to say it, Holly could be next. She might not be able to outsmart him, no matter how clever she is.

Kali / Eight (Linnea Berthelsen)
Kali returning would make sense, especially with everything escalating. But I don’t think her story ends happily. If she does come back, I think it will be to help Eleven one last time. Her death could symbolise Eleven fully stepping into her power alone, without anyone else like her left.
It would be tragic, but it would also feel like closure to a storyline that’s been hanging since Season 2.

Mike Wheeler (Finn Wolfhard)
Mike is someone I’ve gone back and forth on a lot. He feels like the emotional heart of the group, especially when it comes to Eleven. That’s exactly why his death would be so impactful.
If Mike dies, it wouldn’t just affect one character it would affect everyone. Eleven especially. I don’t know if the Duffers would go that far, but if they want a truly unforgettable ending, Mike is one of the biggest emotional risks they could take.
At the end of the day, I don’t think Stranger Things is going to end without loss. This show has grown up with its audience, and that means the ending won’t be easy or painless. Someone we love is not making it out of Hawkins aliveWho I Think Might Die in Stranger Things Season 5 maybe more than one.
Whatever happens, I know I won’t be ready for it. These characters have been with us for years, and saying goodbye is going to hurt. But that’s also what makes this show so special.
Now all that’s left to do is wait… and emotionally prepare for the worst.
