The new trailer for the hotly anticipated Christopher Nolan blockbuster has landed and does not disappoint.
The Odyssey is a classic Greek tale that tells the story of the Ithaca king Odysseus and his long adventurous journey home after the Trojan war to be reunited with his wife Penelope.
Its one of the most famous stories ever told and Nolan was brave to take on such an iconic and mysterious classical myth, but if this trailer is anything to go by it looks like he may have pulled it off.

The cinematography has a sepia like quality that gives the action an ancient yet dynamic feel and the action scenes look realistic and muscular. The special effects don’t look too “CGI’Y” which is a difficult trick to pull off. For me, CGI works better in Sci-Fi and super hero movies rather than historical or sword and sandals movies.
What’s really exciting though, is that the trailer had time to showcase some heartfelt and emotional depth that should elevate this movie above a simple popcorn extravaganza. That is hard to convey in a 2.5 minute trailer but the editors manage to pull you into the premise of the story wonderfully. Let’s be honest, who can resist a long journey home story?

Perhaps, the most impressive thing about the trailer though is that it rises above its star studded cast.
With the likes of Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattison and Charlize Theron making an appearance it would be easy for their star power to overwhelm proceedings. The story and filmmaking stand front and centre though, which bodes well for the upcoming movie which will no doubt dominate Box Office’s around the world.
Bring it on.
