New Rom-com “Nobody Wants This” title couldn’t be further from the truth as everybody should enjoy these 10 episodes. Not sure it needs a reported sequel though, even though I loved it.
Netflix’s new hottest couple is the unlikely pairing of a Rabbi and a sex podcaster. Who would have thought it, not me but it works. Their relationship is the sweetest, the most real and touching aspect of the series and overall, it’s one of the best shows that’s been released for a while.

Joanna (Kristen Bell) is a serial dater, who talks about her risqué and failed dating relationship stories on her podcast that she hosts with her sister Morgan. Noah (Adam Brody) is an ambitious rabbi who has ended a long-term relationship which the families are against him doing, and they are trying to get them back together. Joanna and Noah meet at a mutual friend’s dinner party. The attraction is instant and ever more difficult to resist for both.
Brody and Bell have worked together before, their on-screen chemistry is electric, and you can see the friendship they have and their bantering and connection shines through the screen.
These characters have loads of chemistry but have completely different lifestyles, but they might have more in common than they realise. It makes you believe that anyone can fall in love with anyone no matter what their backgrounds are.
I feel people will relate to this show, especially in one episode that delves into the “ick” that Joanne sustains when Noah is trying hard to impress her parents and not acting like himself. It highlights the importance of being authentic in your relationships and being true to yourself.
A theme explored is the cultural impact of people either trying to start a podcast or listening to one. The podcast in “Nobody wants this” reminds me of the Rosie and Chris Ramsey, “shagged, married and annoyed podcast”.

The supporting cast is fantastic especially Noah’s brother Sasha (Timothy Simons) who has impeccable comedic timing. He exudes warmth and his happy Jewish marriage and love of his kids is a nice juxtaposition to Noah’s single life.

This show is partly based on married creators Erin and Simon Foster’s story of how she ended up converting to Judaism to marry her true love.
The emotions feel real and the different cultures, disapproving parents, lack of faith versus religion are genuine problems that people face in the real world. It tackles these problems with care and consideration, and I haven’t seen a show tackle these issues so well in a long time.
The show concludes nicely with the storyline wrapped up satisfactorily so I can’t think what they can add in the reported second series. Sometimes you just don’t need a sequel.
However, I am intrigued on what ideas the writers have in store.
