With 6 days to go until Christmas, it got me thinking what my top 5 yuletide movies are. This list would probably change from day to day as I remember other films but, as of now these are my favourites.
So here we go …

5. The Holiday Calendar
This is an underrated Netflix warm-hearted rom-com Christmas movie. The chemistry between Kat Graham and Quincy Brown is adorable. It is about a photographer who is stuck in a job that she has done for years. When she inherits an antique advent calendar from her grandad the calendar to her surprise predicts the future and points her in the direction to find true love. It’s the first time I have seen Kat Graham perform and she was the perfect lead. She was sweet and touching. I prefer it to the more famous “The Holiday.”

4. Nativity.
I know this sounds a rogue one and I think it might not make a lot of people’s favourite Christmas movie lists, but I love it. I watched it the other day and forgot how good everyone in this is. The script is cleverly written, funny and it is a gentle production. The kids too are never annoying and have some great one-liners. If you can’t recall the plot, it is about a primary school teacher Paul (Martin Freeman) who produces the next year’s nativity play with his new teaching assistant Mr Poppy (Marc Wootton).
Mr Poppy overhears Paul boasting to an opponent teacher from a private school that a Hollywood producer (Paul’s Ex) is coming to the play and turning it into a movie. Chaos ensues, including romance, singing and Christmas cheer.

3. Elf
This is my favourite Christmas Movie of all time. It’s has been just over 20 years since it’s been released, and it has become a classic. The actors didn’t know that this film was going to be successful and they nearly cut the production because of a lawsuit during filming. Whenever it’s on TV it will always make me belly laugh. No one needs to be reminded of the plot.
Will Farrell is a genius comedian, and I enjoy most of his films, especially his recent documentary “Will and Harper.” Sorry, that was going off topic, but the above documentary is a must see. It is a buddy road movie that will bring a tear to your eye.

2. Muppet Christmas Carol
The key to this Muppet retelling of the story of sad and lonely Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey from miser to a generous soul who embodies the Christmas spirit of good will, is that it is played straight. Micheal Caine, as Scrooge gives a performance that must rank as one of his best. He interacts with the muppets as if they are real people and the whole movie is hilarious and touching at the same time. The musical numbers are catchy, and you find yourself forgetting that they are puppets, that is how good it is. One of the best Dickins adaptations in movie history.

- Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone
This is a bit left field, but the first Potter film just embodies Christmas. It has become one of my favourite Harry Potter films. I love the scenes of Christmas trees in the Great Hall and ghosts such as Sir Headless Nick floating over Harry and his friends as they eat probably the best-looking Christmas food on film.
The Gryffindor dormitories have lots of tinsel and Christmas decorations which look amazing. The scene where Harry gets his invisibility cloak and Molly Wesley makes Harry a jumper is pure Christmas movie magic. The Christmas scenes are so good that you want similar scenes in the rest of the films.
Any suggestions of what I might have missed out please let me know in the comment section.
