MOVIES that you need to keep an eye out for in 2025

The year ahead is going to be filled with movies that are wicked, comedic, romantic and action packed. All the genres will get a look in and even some new ones may be created. I feel that animated classics being turned into live action versions could be the surprise package that everyone will be talking about. Whether they will be flops or massive successes only time will tell.

Here are 10 of my most anticipated movies of 2025.

BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY. This is going to be film number 4 in the romantic comedy hit series. Released on 14th February at the cinema and streaming on Peacock, Leo Woodall from ONE DAY and Chiwetel Ejiofor from 12 YEARS A SLAVE and DOCTOR STRANGE have joined the returning cast of Hugh Grant, Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth. The journey for true love and happiness continues. Should be great family fun.

PADDINGTON IN PERU – The brilliant franchise is back which sees Paddington with his duffle coat and the iconic red hat return to Peru to look for his Aunt Lucy. A favourite of children and adults alike, the bear who loves marmalade is on now on in the Uk and will be released in the US the same day as Bridget Jones.

SNOW WHITE – I hope is going to be good, the trailer looked amazing. This animation turned into a live action musical is led by the most talented up and coming actress around, Rachel Zegler. Ably supported by Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen this classic fairytale is hotly anticipated. Marc Webb directs from a screenplay by Greta Gerwig and Erin Wilson. With so much talent on board i have high hopes for this one. You can check in with the 7 dwarves on 21st March.

LILO AND STITCH – The second Disney live action version of the cartoon original on my list will be released on 23rd May. It was one of my favourite animations when I was younger. It follows the same premise as the 2003 animation. Maia Kealoha, who is new to the film industry stars as Lilo and the supporting cast includes Billy Magnussen, Zach Galifianakis and Courtney B. Vance. Fun and chaos on the islands of Hawaii are sure to be on the menu.

FREAKIER FRIDAY – Lindsey Lohan and some of the original cast are back for the sequel more than 20 years after the original was made. Lindsey and Jamie Curtis are reprising their iconic roles as they are back swapping bodies. This sequel is about Lohan’s character, Tess, who is now a mother herself, with both a daughter and soon-to-be-stepdaughter. The merging of two families adds new dynamics to the storyline. Coming on 8th August. Could this finally be Lohan’s successful comeback.

WICKED: FOR GOOD – This is the second instalment of the worldwide musical smash hit, picking up where the first film left off with Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked Witch and Ariana Grande’s Glinda separated by the Wizard of Oz, Jeff Goldblum. Will they be reconciled and find happiness at last? Can’t wait.

HAPPY GILMORE 2 – Adam Sandler is back as the reluctant and unconventional pro golfer with anger issues in this sequel to the comedy cult hit. Starring alongside Sandler are Julie Bowen, Christopher McDonald and Ben Stiller. Directed by Kyle Newacheck, Gilmore will be teeing off in the summer, but we don’t know the exact date yet. Golf and comedy fans will be excited.

A SIMPLE FAVOUR 2 – Anna Kendrick (Stephanie Smothers) and Blake Lively (Emily Nelson) will return for the sequel to the psychological thriller of the power dynamics between two women.  Both are heading to the island of Capri for Emily’s wedding where murder and betrayal ensue. It will be interesting to see the reviews and audience thoughts as Blake is embroiled in a lawsuit with her previous director Justin Baldoni for harassment.  We don’t know when it will be released, but who can resist a murder thriller on the islands of Italy.

WAKE UP DEAD MAN: A Knives out Mystery – The third in the murder mystery series starring Daniel Craig as detective Benoit Blanc returns. I really do hope that its third time lucky as the second movie was weak and disjointed. Directed by Rian Johnson this murder mystery ensemble includes Josh O’Connor, Andrew Scott, Glenn Close, Mila Kunis and more. Hopefully this one will be more like the first, with plenty of juicy characters and twists and turns.

Programme Name: Blue Planet II – TX: n/a – Episode: n/a (No. n/a) – Picture Shows: Sir David Attenborough – (C) – – Photographer: –

DAVID ATTENBOROUGH: OCEAN– The iconic David Attenborough always narrates great documentaries, and I expect this one is going to be the same. In this feature he guides us through all things oceanic. Expect jaw dropping photography and informative marine life stories.

It will be exciting to see which films thrive this year and which one’s flop. No-one really knows if a film is going to resonate or not, but I think it is safe to say quite a few on this list will find a huge audience.

I will be first in line at the movies to watch these choices and I hope there will be some surprise releases yet to be announced.
