Today my choices for exciting TV shows that are returning in 2025 are mainly for the Gen Z audience. These shows have captivated me, and I am really looking forward to Gen Z heaven.
Here are 5 of my most anticipated TV shows of 2025

STRANGER THINGS – This is the final season of the most successful supernatural franchise in recent years and hopefully it will be the best one yet. I was a bit disappointed with the fourth season as it dragged on too long and I felt that it had a lot of fillers. The episodes were movie length, which is a bit much, even for this avid fan. I am excited to see how it all ends though and hopefully at least one of the main characters die to spice things up a bit. I know, I’m being morbid but there needs to be some jeopardy to make this more interesting.

THE SUMMER I TURNED PRETTY
This show has become one of my favourites to watch. The third season is coming out this year and 11 episodes are being dropped on Amazon Prime (don’t know when). Rumour has it in the summer. I loved the second season where the drama ratches up and Belly finally has her moment with Jeremiah (I’ll always be a Jeremiah fan). The love triangle, which is the main plot will be exciting to see how the dynamic grows between Belly and Conrad this time around. It should be another unforgettable summer in seaside town of Cousins. Who else is excited?

MY LIFE WITH THE WALTER BOYS
This is another Netflix successful coming of age series and the second season is likely to come out in the summer or fall/autumn. The drama revolves around a tragedy that affects a teenager who then moves to a small town where her guardian/family friend takes her in. This TV show is quite similar to The Summer I Turned Pretty as the main protagonist falls in love with two guys, and they are both brothers. The first season was excellent and there is a massive cliffhanger at the end to whet your appetite for this season. I am interested to see how the characters develop and how the storylines are going to play out. Especially the conclusion to the first season finale!

XO KITTY
The second season is coming next week (16th Jan) and as the series comes closer, I am more excited than ever to see what happens. The trailer was very good, and it is interesting to see Kitty exploring her options romantically. It is set in Korea and if you have watched To All the Boys I Loved Before, Peter Kavinsky (Noah Centineo) is on board to give some weight to the show, as well as writer and director Jenny Han from “all the boys”. The first series was good fun and the setting in Seoul and having the majority of the cast Korean is a nod to the cultural impact that Korea has given the world. I love the fact that it is a hybrid where America and Asia meet.

THE ROOKIE (SEASON 7, YES, I’m NOT JOKING)
I am cheating here, but I couldn’t resist including this cop drama that has proved to be a worldwide hit. Nathan Fillion as John Nolan has progressed from rookie to an effective policeman on the streets of LA. Most of the supporting characters are returning and for me the thing that makes this police drama stand out is that they all have each other’s back. Oh, and they are good looking, which helps! Nolan has graduated back and forth from trainee to an officer who solves crimes. The programme has heart, and I know it’s not Gen Z, but who’s counting.
January has made me look forward to the spring and I apologise if these choices are a bit romantic, but what can I say, romance never dies, and it always gets me happy and warm inside.
