Cameron Diaz is back with her first film since she took a break to become a mum 10 years ago. It’s a safe return to the big screen, which can be seen with her choice of co-star, her old friend Jamie Foxx.
Cameron’s last film before she retired was ANNIE, again with Jamie Foxx. I thought she did a great job as the baddie turned good Miss Hannigan.

The best friends are back with Netflix’s BACK IN ACTION, a spy film whose title is a nod to Diaz’s return to acting and the action-packed storyline. I have to say it’s not a great return for the SHREK star, but it could have been worse.
She’s the best thing in it and her magic and charisma remain undiminished even if the script doesn’t do her any favours. At least she gets better lines than Foxx! It’s all a bit cheesy and predictable. That can work in movies favour sometimes, but you can’t help wishing that Diaz had chosen her comeback with a bit more care.

This action comedy is about “Matt” and “Emily” who are former CIA spies who quit to have a family together and are forced back into action after their secret identities have been exposed.
BACK IN ACTION did have some funny moments and great suspense moments. I did clock that some of the scenes were filmed in Kew Gardens which was quite cool as I live near there.
It had a Spy Kids vibe, with Cameron and Jamie going back on a mission, although here the kids are just tagging along and there is no Spy Kids Camp!

The thing is about this film is that for most of the time it holds your attention but there are moments when you just want to skip it. Not a great sign, and the final is all geared up for a sequel, which I find very annoying and cynical. There is nothing wrong with sequels when they can add depth and there is a point to it, but just for the sake of it is a bug bear of mine.
However, you can tell that it was a big budget production, and it is all up there on the screen. It looks lovely and the stunt work is brilliant and innovative.
Although the focus is all about Cameron Diaz ‘s big screen return it is also great to see Jamie Foxx back after he had a stroke. You can see that they like each other.
It’s a good background watch which for anyone studying or working from home is no bad thing. Don’t expect too much and you will find yourself having a lot of fun.
