The BAFTA Television Awards were last night, and it wasn’t as bad as I thought it might have been, as usually there isn’t the glitz and glamour that the movie version has.

Alan Cummings was the host and apart from a hilarious skit reading from a baby book stating the house rules, his four extravagant outfit changes were the highlight of his time chairing the proceedings. Joke after joke failed to hit the mark and went down like a lead balloon.
Mr Bates vs the Post Office was deservedly the big winner of the night as it was a shout of protest at injustice from the “little man” of Britain.

Apart from that what I loved was the variety of shows that won the BAFTA, they were all unique in their own way. You did have some awards that where predictable which was Jessica Gunning winning best supporting actress for Baby Reindeer, which other than this award had a disappointing night. Other than that, there were some great left field surprises such as Ariyon Bakare winning for Mr Loverman and Marisa Abela for Industry.

Jessie J made a sensational comeback singing, “the award goes to..” and brought the house down with a powerful performance.
There were some great presenters giving out BAFTA’s, such as Adolescence stars Owen Cooper and Erin Doherty together and Ashley Walters on his own. Dame Mary Berry was as regal as ever and deaf girl Rose Ayling Ellis used sign language to augment her presenting.
All in all, a show of few surprises, but an entertaining night, nevertheless.
