Everyone has a favourite movie quote a line that sticks with you long after the credits roll. Some make us laugh, others give us courage, and a few can even change how we see the world.
Here are my top 10, along with the scenes.

1. Yorki – Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Quote:
“The Russians, Jojo, they’re coming and the Americans from the other way, and England, and China, and Africa, and India. The whole world is coming… Our only friends are the Japanese, and between you and me, they don’t look very Aryan.”
Scene:
Yorki says this near the end of the movie when the war is clearly lost, giving Jojo a comically grim update about the chaos. Despite the seriousness, the scene retains the movie’s dark humour.
Bonus quote:
Jojo: “She’s basically my girlfriend now.”
Yorki: “Good for you, Jojo. A girlfriend!”
(Although, my dad and I used to think he said, “Well done, Jojo. You got a girlfriend!” — and honestly, I think our version is even better.)

2. Stitch – Lilo & Stitch (2002)
Quote:
“Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.”
Scene:
Stitch repeats this line after learning it from Lilo, showing how much he’s come to value the idea of belonging and love. It’s a central theme of the movie.

3. Sam – The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
Quote:
“But there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.”
Scene:
Sam says this as Frodo begins to lose hope. It’s a powerful moment where Sam’s loyalty and optimism become a beacon in their darkest hour.

4. Hopper – Stranger Things (Season 2, Episode 9)
Quote:
“Make mistakes, learn from them and when life hurts you because it will remember the hurt. The hurt is good. It means you’re out of that cave.”
Scene:
Hopper says this to Eleven in a heartfelt letter during the final episode of Season 2. It’s part of his emotional “fatherly” advice, reflecting on trauma, growth, and healing.

5. Rafiki – The Lion King (1994)
Quote:
“Oh yes, the past can hurt but the way I see it, you can either run from it or learn from it.”
Scene:
Rafiki says this when he teaches Simba an important life lesson whacking him on the head to make the point. A wise and memorable moment.

6. Master Oogway – Kung Fu Panda (2008)
Quote:
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift that’s why it’s called the present.”
Scene:
Master Oogway shares this wisdom with Po while sitting under the peach tree. It’s a moment of calm reflection and one of the film’s most iconic quotes.

7. Chief Martin Brody – Jaws (1975)
Quote:
“You’re gonna need a bigger boat.”
Scene:
Brody says this after seeing the shark up close for the first time. It’s an understated line that became one of the most famous in film history.

8. Meg March – Little Women (2019)
Quote:
“Just because my dreams are different than yours doesn’t mean they’re unimportant.”
Scene:
Meg says this to Jo, defending her choice to marry and have a family. It’s a gentle but firm moment about respecting different life paths.

9. Gloria – Barbie (2023)
Quote:
“I’m just so tired of watching myself and every single other woman tie herself into knots so that people will like us.”
Scene:
This powerful monologue comes when Gloria voices the frustration of constantly having to meet impossible standards. It’s one of the film’s emotional peaks.

10. Dumbledore – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Quote:
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
Scene:
Dumbledore delivers this quote while speaking in the Great Hall, addressing the students about the presence of Dementors and the importance of hope.
These quotes aren’t just memorable lines they’re little bits of wisdom, humour, and heart that have stayed with me. Whether you’re watching for the first time or the tenth, great movies always have something to say.
