We tend to think that co-stars in Hollywood, whether in big budget or low budget movies get on and become great friends during the production. There are examples of this, such as Saoirse Ronan and Timothée Chalamet who became best buddies on the set of Lady Bird. However, underneath the glamour and positive publicity tensions do arise between co-stars. While most remain under the radar, some feuds become public with some calling each other unbelievably disgusting words and keeping the animosity going for years. In fact, the real-life drama between stars can often be more dramatic than the films they are appearing in.
But which actors are they?
7) Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams

Even though Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams dated in real life after The Notebook was released, it was an “enemies to lovers” storyline that could have been plot from a movie itself.
It didn’t start well.
Director Nick Cassavetes told a story to VH1 in 2014, remembering how Ryan came to him after a scene with Rachel, saying “Would you take her out of here and bring in another actress to read off camera with me. I can’t do it with her, I’m not getting anything from her.”
Rachel and Ryan ended up in a room with a Producer, where they started screaming and yelling at each other.
Nick said that after that confrontation the shoot was able to continue, although the bickering between the couple continued. Their two-year relationship after the production finished is perhaps proof of the adage that, love and hate are two sides of the same coin.
6) Bill Murray and Lucy Lui

It’s fair to say that Lucy and Bill weren’t amazing friends before and after filming Charlies Angels together.
Lucy was speaking on LA times Asian Enough podcast stating, “Murray hurled insults which kept going and going. It was uncalled for, some of the language was unacceptable. I stood up for myself.”
Murray has never commented on the fall out, but reports have said that he loudly complained about Lui’s acting technique and once stopped a scene saying, “you can’t act!”
Not the way to endear yourself to a co-star. Murray was unrepentant in 2009 saying, “look I will dismiss you completely if you are unprofessional and working with me,” he said.
You can’t see Christmas cards being exchanged between the two anytime soon.
5) Ashley Tisdale and Lucas Grabeel

Confirming on her YouTube channel, Ashley didn’t like Grabeel when they were filming High School Musical together. Even though they played sister and brother on screen the Disney star stated, “We were not close, we were not good friends. We hated each other!”
Grabeel agreed and said that “We didn’t get off at the best start. We are good friends now but back then maybe not so much.”
This is proof that sometimes it is easier for performers to get on with each other after the pressures of filming stops. Once the professional relationship stops the personal one can grow.
4) Claire Danes and Leonardo DiCaprio

Romeo and Juliet, directed by Baz Luhrmann was a springboard for the two stars careers. However, according to reports Danes found DiCaprio too immature and childish throughout the shoot. For Leo, it was Danes who was too uptight, and the situation deteriorated to the point where they didn’t speak to each other at all between takes.
Maybe these star-crossed lovers weren’t a match made in heaven.
3) Dustin Hoffman and Meryl Streep

Superstars Hoffman and Streep stared in the Oscar winning Kramer vs Kramer in 1979 to critical acclaim. The co-stars had a fraught relationship during filming with their private and personal lives merging to create a difficult environment to work in.
Streep said that Hoffman overstepped the mark when he slapped her in the face with real intent in one scene.
Hoffman was getting a divorce while shooting and he said that he was acting out stuff that he was feeling toward his wife in real life.
The actor has taken responsibility for his behaviour towards Streep, but it doesn’t look likely that the two will appear next to each other any time soon.
2) Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer

Tatum and Pettyfer played best friends in Magic Mike but were not close in real life.
Pettyfer, said in an a 2015 interview that “Tatum does not like me, for many reasons and many being my fault.”
According to Alex tensions began when he was “very insecure as a human being” during filming and decided to keep to himself on set. “That gave me a bad rep because they said, Oh Alex thinks he’s better than everybody else because he doesn’t speak to anyone.’”
Tatum has never publicly responded to it, but with Pettyfer not appearing in the Magic Mike sequel it seems that the feud is going strong.
Lastly, let’s get right up to date with the ongoing drama that is,
- Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni

There has been an ongoing feud that is continuing to grow and expand into other areas between Lively and Baldoni, who star together in the recent film It Ends with Us. In the film she plays Lily Bloom a woman who is running away from a marriage to a volatile and abusive man who is played by Baldoni.
Justin also directed the film and has recently hired a PR crisis manager to calm down the rift between the two of them. It all started when fans noticed that Justin and Lively were not taking photos together at Premiers and that Blake said in an interview that he was fat shaming her and kissing her for too long in scenes.
However, there are rumours that Lively and her superstar husband Reynolds took control of the final cut of the movie, leaving director Baldoni in no doubt who had the power.
To make matters worse, some interviewers that have spent time with Lively at Press Junkets have said that she is a diva.
The allegation is that she is making light of the domestic abuse theme of the film by giving the impression it is a romantic drama and not giving information online to try and help people with DV.
At the beginning of this month, she a held a florist themed party for the film with her drinks brand, Betty Booze at the forefront of the event. Given the links between domestic abuse and alcohol this promotion was thoughtless at best, from what her critics say is a privileged and spoilt celebrity. It gives the sense of entitlement.
It was only after the initial critism that she has posted a few Instagram stories giving the link to a help line.
With Baldoni getting his side of the story out there, this feud shows no sign of slowing down, and with a sequel being rumoured this is a real life drama that will run and run.
